About Room to Read

Approximately 273 million of the world’s children and youth are not in school and only 3% of global humanitarian aid is spent on education.

Room to Read is a global education nonprofit that envisions a world free from illiteracy and gender inequality, where all children have room to read, learn and grow – creating lasting change.

Room to Read nurtures foundational learning skills in children, enabling them to pursue lifelong learning and make informed decisions.

Our Literacy Portfolio supports children in developing literacy skills with a love of reading, and our Gender Equality Portfolio supports adolescents, particularly girls, in developing life skills that promote gender equality.

We deliver and scale our programming directly and with partners, operating within our areas of expertise: curriculum and content; educator training and coaching; delivery structures; and research and insights.

To accelerate learning outcomes for more children, more quickly, we collaborate with government education systems and non-formal learning systems, as well as multimedia and evidence management systems to scale our programming. We seek to facilitate system reform in each country we work in, partnering with governments and other partners - including NGOs, public school systems, publishing partners, non-formal education and multimedia partners - to scale our innovative programming and help children of all backgrounds establish foundational literacy and life skills.

To date, Room to Read has benefited more than 60 million children across 29 geographies, including Bangladesh, Cambodia, Canada, China, Grenada, Honduras, India, Indonesia, Italy, Jordan, Kenya, Laos, Lebanon, Malawi, Maldives, Myanmar, Nepal, Nigeria, Pakistan, Palestine, Philippines, Rwanda, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Uganda, United States, Vietnam and Zambia.

In 2025 alone, more than 17 million children actively benefited from our programming, including 8.4 million new children.

Room to Read offers a cause that speaks directly to the UAE diverse and international community. With this campaign, Room to Read wishes to highlight the critical need for access to quality education in low-income communities, where millions of children, particularly girls, are deprived of learning opportunities. All funds raised will go toward Room to Read - wherever the need is greatest.
