A huge earthquake with a magnitude of 6.1 and floods struck Afghanistan on the morning of Wednesday, June 22nd, 2022. The largest earthquake since 2002 killed over 1,000 people, injured 1,500, and destroyed hundreds of homes. At least 400 people died as a result of the flood.

According to the most recent report, the number of earthquake victims is expected to rise because many areas remain difficult for the evacuation teams to reach.

The earthquake also damaged hundreds of homes and vital infrastructure and disrupted communications networks.
