Saddened news comes from Malang, East Java, Indonesia.

The flash flood tragedy occurred this afternoon (4/11) in Bumi Aji District.

The tragedy was triggered by high intensity rainfall and the blockage of logs in the upstream of the river that was not able to accommodate the water discharge, the river overflowed carrying water, mud, and garbage.

It caused 5 locations in Batu City to be affected by flash floods at around 2 PM local time. The 5 villages in Bumi Aji Subdistrict that were most severely affected were Sumber Brantas Village, Bulu Kerto Village, Tulung Rejo Village, Padang Rejo Village, and Sidomulyo Village.

The latest information is still being updated by the local Initiatives and Community Response in Disaster (BPBD). However, it is estimated that dozens of people were lost due to the flash flood.

The ACT-MRI team in Malang Raya participated directly in the field to carry out evacuations and collect data on the needs of the survivors.
