NAS Dubai Supports Orphan Care in Uganda

Story

Join us in supporting Bwindi Plus, an orphanage located near the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest in Uganda. The orphanage provides education, care, and, most importantly, a safe home for vulnerable children who face difficult circumstances. Despite the challenges they face every day, the children of Bwindi Plus continue to dream—and our mission is to help turn those dreams into reality.

The story behind Bwindi Plus began with resilience and hardship. Its founder grew up as an orphan, walking 8 km to school each day through difficult and sometimes dangerous areas. As a child, he experienced devastating loss when his closest friend was swept away while crossing a river. He carried that pain with him for years and made a promise that no child should ever experience what he had experienced. Bwindi Plus was built on that promise, a place for safety for all children in the community.

Today, the orphanage supports 443 children, including 113 high-school students. They follow the Ugandan national curriculum and work tirelessly to build brighter futures for all. Some of these children even travel from communities near the Uganda–DRC border, with a few coming from within the Democratic Republic of Congo itself. For them, education is a crucial and worth every kilometre they walk.

Yet the challenges remain significant. During the rainy season, flooding and dangerous river crossings prevent many students from going to school. This is why the students and staff share a powerful dream, which is to build dormitories so students who live far away—whether in distant Ugandan villages or across the border—can stay safely on-site without risking their lives on the journey.

Another urgent need is a proper library and learning centre. Bwindi Plus has no library, which limits students’ access to books, study resources, and the internet. A dedicated learning space would allow them to expand their knowledge, learn new skills, and allow for new opportunities.

Even with these challenges, the impact of Bwindi Plus is extraordinary. Students arrive at school excited, motivated, and hopeful. Academic performance continues to rise. Twenty percent of graduates now qualify for university—a remarkable achievement that helps break the cycle of poverty. The orphanage also works with local initiatives to help students find jobs, allowing them to support their families and communities.

The founder’s motivation remains unchanged, to give every child the safety and opportunity he never had, and to ensure that no child endures the hardships he experienced growing up.

Your support will help make this vision a reality. It will fund safe dormitories, a new library, land for farming, a playground, sports equipment, uniforms, shoes, and essential supplies for children who continue to walk long distances—sometimes barefoot—just to access education.

By joining this campaign, you become part of a movement that uplifts, protects, and empowers hundreds of young lives. With your help, we can transform their dreams into reality and create futures filled with hope for every child at Bwindi Orphanage.
