A major cause of visual impairment amongst school children is the inability to see clearly (refractive errors) a condition that is easily treated by eye glasses. Children in elementary schools are falling behind in their academic performance and dropping out of school as they are wrongly accused of being careless or lazy and sometimes stigmatized as unintelligent.

• Refractive error is the leading cause of vision impairment in school-aged children

• Spectacles are the most effective health interventions for children, reducing the odds of failing a class by 44%

Through the school eye health program, Noor Dubai Foundation identified 100,000 students in schools who need eyeglasses to improve their vision. It’s estimated that AED 3 will help fund the production of one pair of glasses for one child.
